Moov is a running coach. To do its job it needs a small amount of information about you and your sessions. This page explains exactly what that is, why we collect it, and how you stay in control. It is written to be read, not skimmed past.

Who we are

Moov Coach Ltd, based in the United Kingdom, is the data controller for the Moov app and this website. For anything privacy-related, email privacy@moov.coach.

What we collect and why

Account data

Your email address and a password (stored hashed, never in plain text), so you can sign in and recover your account. If you sign in with a third-party provider we receive the email address and identifier that provider shares.

Onboarding answers

The things you tell us so the coach can personalise to you: how much time you have, past attempts, any injuries or niggles you mention, and how confident you feel. These are used only to shape your plan and the coach's messages.

Session data

For each session you log we store the date and time, duration, distance, the type of session (walk, run, mixed) and technical diagnostics such as whether the measurement was reliable. We do not store your route. Where you went is not something the coach needs, so we don't keep it.

Location

If you use the in-app timer, Moov asks for location access so it can measure a session while your phone is locked and in your pocket. Location is processed on your device to calculate duration and distance for that session only. It is not uploaded as a route, not shared with anyone, and not used for advertising. You can log sessions manually without granting location access at all.

How you feel

Optional check-ins, such as energy level or a one-line note. These are shown back to you and used by the coach. They are never scored against anyone else.

Device and usage data

Crash reports and basic usage events (for example, that a session was logged) so we can fix bugs and see which parts of Moov are working. We use this in aggregate.

The AI coach

Moov's coaching messages and personalised plans are generated by an AI model provided by Anthropic. When we ask the model for a message we send an anonymised signal: things like "missed two sessions, low energy today, first-timer". We never send your name, email address, age, gender or any other identifying or demographic information. Anthropic processes this under a data processing agreement and does not use it to train its models.

The coach is instructed never to talk about pace targets, comparisons with other people, or missed sessions as failures. If it ever does, tell us at hello@moov.coach so we can fix it.

Our legal basis

  • Performance of a contract for account, onboarding and session data: we cannot coach you without it.
  • Consent for location access, optional check-ins and marketing emails. You can withdraw it at any time in your phone's settings or in the app.
  • Legitimate interests for crash reports and aggregate usage data, so the app keeps working.

Who we share data with

Only the services we need to run Moov: our hosting provider (Cloudflare), our AI provider (Anthropic, anonymised signals only), crash reporting, and the app stores for payments. We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers. If you subscribe, Apple or Google handle the payment and we never see your card details.

How long we keep it

For as long as you have an account. Delete your account and your personal data, onboarding answers and sessions are deleted within 30 days. Anonymised, aggregate statistics may be kept. Waitlist emails on this website are deleted once the launch email has been sent, or on request.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can access, correct, export, restrict or delete your data, and object to how we use it. Most of this you can do yourself:

  • Delete your account in the app under Settings → Account → Delete account.
  • Export your data in the app under Settings → Account → Export, or email us.

For anything else, email privacy@moov.coach. We respond within one month. If you are unhappy with our answer you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Children

Moov is for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger.

This website

moov.coach is a static site served by Cloudflare. If you join the waitlist we store your email address, which phone you use, and where you came from (for example, Instagram) so we know which channels reach the people Moov is for. We set no advertising cookies. Cloudflare may process your IP address to serve the site securely.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters we'll tell you in the app and update the date at the top of this page.
